This was my first year at The Los Angeles Times Bookfest in Los Angeles, CA, and I certainly hope this isn’t the last! Aside from the weather (the ONE day in LA that it has to rain…!), the day could not have been more perfect…and I get to do it all over again tomorrow!

As the name probably indicates, the bookfest celebrates…well…books. More specifically, it’s the combination of books, celebrities, music, and food. In other words, it’s the perfect type of event for someone as nerdy as me.
Whether it was Food Network’s resident model-turned-food-critic Padma Lakshmi (who delivered so much truth in her talk!), or the hilarity of actor/comedian Rainn Wilson (there to promote his latest tome of observations and tribulations), or the family-friendly advice and zingers of Jonathan Silver Scott & Drew Scott (known, collectively, as HGTV’s Property Brothers…pause while the Midwest hausfraus hyperventilate!), a good time was certainly had by one and all.
The event was held at the University of Southern California’s downtown LA campus, and everyone there was happy to help. I also had the privilege of checking out a cool modern rock collective called Spritely, which reminded me of my college days at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, when Rusted Root was just coming out. I took some photos of them, as well, which you can see in the gallery below.
Other things available at this bookfest include — as I mentioned before — all sorts of food trucks, collectibles, and even a children’s section where the young’uns can get started on their love of reading! (As a side note…my love affair with books began when I was 2 years old, and I’ve loved reading ever since…)
